Freshworks deepens co-sell integration as ‘partners take a larger role’ in enterprise engagements
Migration enablement, centres of excellence and tighter sales collaboration are becoming central to how ecosystem partners accelerate enterprise deployments and customer decision-making.
Freshworks has spent the last year tightening alignment between its partner ecosystem and internal sales organisation as enterprise customer engagements increasingly shift toward migration-heavy, services-led and outcome-focused deployments.
Across the company’s India ecosystem, partners are taking on larger roles not only in implementation and services delivery, but also in commercial ownership, enterprise customer engagement, migration orchestration and product feedback.
“One major improvement over the last year has been tighter integration between our partner ecosystem and our sales organisation. We now have a much stronger co-sell motion where partners work side by side with our sales teams. Moving to the resale model has helped accelerate that because partners now own the commercial discussions directly,” said Freshworks’ vice president, strategic alliances, Tim Britt.
According to Britt, the ecosystem today operates through multiple engagement structures, including partner-sourced models, implementation-led engagements, referral motions and fulfilment-based transactions, depending on customer size and complexity.
In enterprise accounts, Freshworks continues to engage directly through its enterprise organisation, while partners contribute surrounding capabilities such as migrations, optimisation, cloud decisions, implementation and ongoing services.
SoftwareOne’s vice president, sales and strategy, Venkataraman Dhanapathy, said enterprise engagements increasingly involve partners across broader transformation initiatives rather than only software procurement.
According to Dhanapathy, enterprise customers now expect partners to help evaluate surrounding technologies, support deployment decisions and contribute to long-term modernisation initiatives alongside Freshworks platforms.
Migration complexity reshaping partner roles
As enterprise customers move from legacy systems and existing ITSM environments, ecosystem executives said migration expertise has become a critical differentiator for partners.
Sonata Software’s senior vice president, Mohan Muthuraj, said, “In large enterprises, customers are usually not implementing these tools for the first time. They already have existing systems in place, ranging from Excel-based processes to platforms like ServiceNow or ManageEngine.”
“What we bring is knowledge of those existing products and ecosystems,” Muthuraj said.
He added, “We understand how those platforms work and can support migrations from them to Freshworks. Freshworks may not always have deep visibility into all the Indian players operating in the market, but system integrators like us understand those environments well.”
Rather than relying primarily on traditional certification models or theoretical training sessions, Freshworks is focusing on live implementation exposure and migration-led learning.
Britt said partners now work more closely with Freshworks professional services teams and gain practical experience through real customer deployments and implementation scenarios.
According to him, the company has invested significantly over the past year in migration enablement, technical workshops and knowledge-sharing initiatives tied to enterprise projects.
Partners influencing product direction
Another shift emerging inside the ecosystem is the growing role of partners in product discussions and roadmap feedback.
Britt said Freshworks has “expanded engagement with partners” through technical workshops, roadmap sessions, AI innovation discussions and leadership roundtables.
These conversations connect partners directly with Freshworks product teams, including engineering and development functions in Chennai.
According to Britt, partners often maintain closer day-to-day relationships with enterprise customers and therefore “bring valuable implementation and operational feedback” into product discussions.
That feedback loop is important as enterprise deployments become more customised and services-intensive.
The ecosystem is also becoming more flexible in terms of partner participation models.
Freshworks now supports multiple partner structures across the ecosystem, including referral-focused sales consultants, system integrators, solution providers and services-only partners.
At the same time, the company continues balancing the role of large system integrators with boutique specialist firms.
Britt said “boutique partners remain strategically important” because many bring deep vertical expertise in industries such as healthcare, higher education, professional services and government.
Rather than rigidly segmenting the ecosystem, Freshworks is seeing partners naturally specialise in areas including customer experience, employee experience and ITSM deployments.
Centres of Excellence accelerating enterprise decisions
A major operational focus across the ecosystem has also been the growing use of proof-of-concept environments and Centres of Excellence (CoE) to accelerate enterprise decision-making.
Enterprise customers want faster validation cycles and clearer deployment visibility before making purchasing decisions.
“Investments in proof-of-concept environments and demonstrations have been extremely valuable for us. While there is an initial cost involved, it gets compensated through faster sales cycles,” said Muthuraj.
“Being able to demonstrate solutions live to customers helps them understand the platform quickly and makes it easier to close deals faster. That ability to shorten the sales cycle is very important for partners like us,” he added.
According to Dhanapathy, enterprise customers today are less interested in prolonged evaluation exercises and more focused on understanding how quickly solutions can go live.
According to him, CoE also help downstream partners that may not have their own dedicated environments or enterprise demonstration capabilities.
“We bring customers into our CoE for demonstrations and solution discussions, which helps partners accelerate customer engagement and learning,” Dhanapathy said.
Freshworks is also using CoE to address customer hesitation around change.
Britt said, “Customers often delay decisions because of fear around change.”
“CoE help overcome that challenge because they provide a dedicated environment where customers can openly discuss their requirements, understand the solutions and gain confidence in the implementation approach,” he added.
That capability is important as enterprise customers prioritise speed-to-value, lower deployment risk, and faster operational outcomes.
As enterprise engagements become more services- and migration-intensive, Freshworks and its ecosystem partners are positioning co-sell structures, migration enablement and CoE not simply as sales acceleration tools, but as mechanisms to build trust, reduce transformation risk and deepen long-term enterprise engagement.
