Kellton completes $2.5 million digital oilfield monitoring deployment for Oil India

The project connects 77 production wells through a cloud-based monitoring platform, providing real-time operational visibility and creating a foundation for AI-driven production analytics and predictive maintenance.

India's second-largest national oil and gas company, Oil India Limited (OIL) has completed the deployment of a large-scale digital wellhead monitoring system with Kellton as part of its ongoing digital transformation programme.

The project brings real-time production data from 77 wells across 46 production plinths onto Kellton’s Optima Digital Oilfield Platform, giving the oil and gas company greater visibility into field operations and production performance.

Kellton secured the implementation contract, valued at approximately USD 2.5 million, in December 2024.

The deployment was completed within six months and establishes a cloud-based monitoring environment spanning field instrumentation, telemetry infrastructure and centralised operational monitoring.

The project includes 482 field devices deployed across Oil India’s production environment.

These comprise 390 wireless and wired sensors and gauges, secure telemetry gateways and solar-powered infrastructure designed to collect and transmit operational data from remote well locations.

The data is integrated into Kellton’s Optima platform, enabling operators to monitor production assets in real time and improve operational decision-making.

The broader technology stack combines Emerson field instrumentation with AWS cloud infrastructure.

According to Oil India, the platform improves visibility across field operations and supports more informed decision-making, operational efficiency and performance transparency.

The company further mentioned that Optima provides a scalable and future-ready foundation to support ongoing optimisation and innovation initiatives.

Foundation for future digital oilfield operations

Beyond real-time monitoring, the deployment creates a digital foundation for future oilfield modernisation initiatives.

The Optima platform supports capabilities including AI-driven production analytics, predictive maintenance, workflow automation, asset lifecycle management and digital twin environments.

These capabilities are intended to help operators identify production issues earlier, improve asset utilisation and streamline field operations.

Kellton’s global director of energy business unit, Ramana Palisetti, said the platform was designed for upstream oil and gas operations and enables organisations to consolidate field data, monitor assets in real time and generate production insights through analytics.

He added that combining edge intelligence, cloud infrastructure and centralised operational visibility helps energy companies improve production efficiency and accelerate decision-making.

The deployment marks another step in the adoption of digital technologies across India's energy sector as operators increasingly invest in connected infrastructure, industrial IoT and data-driven production management.

Kellton said its Optima platform has been deployed across energy operations in India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iraq, Peru, Ecuador and other markets.
