Proofpoint expands India GTM with Delhi office, steps up partner investment

It is also setting up an AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad and plans to hire over 200 engineers.

Proofpoint is expanding its India operations with a new Delhi office and increased investment in sales, customer success, technical support and its partner ecosystem as enterprises face new security and data protection challenges from AI adoption.

The company is also expanding its global R&D operations in India with a new AI Security Engineering Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, where it plans to hire over 200 engineers over the next 12 to 24 months.

The Hyderabad centre will focus on next-generation AI security technologies and support Proofpoint’s global AI security roadmap.

This includes capabilities covering AI governance, runtime protection and security for AI applications, copilots and autonomous AI agents, including technologies from Proofpoint’s recently acquired Acuvity portfolio.

Proofpoint’s India business has tripled over the past 12 months, while new customer acquisition has grown at a double-digit rate.

The number of seats protected by Proofpoint has also increased by more than 600 percent over the past 18 months.

According to the company, the recent customer wins include organisations across BFSI, BPOs, defence and the public sector, including one of India’s largest private sector banks.

The company is increasing its local presence to support this demand and expand its engagement with customers and partners.

AI security creates new partner opportunities

Proofpoint’s expansion comes as AI adoption is creating new requirements around data security, AI governance and protection of AI systems.

The company’s 2026 AI and Human Risk Landscape report found that 87 percent of organisations globally have deployed AI, while 52 percent are not fully confident they can detect a compromised AI system.

This creates opportunities for cybersecurity partners to help organisations assess and manage security risks across employees, AI applications and autonomous agents.

Proofpoint’s Hyderabad centre will strengthen the technology side of this opportunity, while the company’s increased investment in its partner ecosystem will provide local support for customer engagements.

Proofpoint India country manager Bikramdeep Singh said the company’s expanded presence in Hyderabad and Delhi will allow it to innovate locally while working closely with customers and partners.

“By investing in both world-class engineering talent and customer-facing expertise, we're reinforcing our long-term commitment to helping organisations across India securely accelerate their AI transformation,” Singh said.

The company already has over 550 extended team members at its Pune Centre of Excellence, supporting global engineering, product development, customer support and technical services.

It also has a local data centre supporting Indian customers since the third quarter of 2025 to address data sovereignty and compliance requirements.

Data protection becomes a bigger India opportunity

Proofpoint is also expanding its data security capabilities as organisations prepare for India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and deal with the increasing volume of sensitive data being handled by AI systems.

According to Proofpoint's latest Voice of the CISO report, 99 percent of Indian CISOs reported material loss of sensitive data, compared with 66 percent globally.

The company said AI is adding to this challenge as employees and AI agents create, access and share sensitive data across more channels.

Proofpoint’s unified data security offering combines Data Security Posture Management, Enterprise and Adaptive Email DLP, and Insider Threat Management.

The platform will help organisations discover and classify sensitive data, prevent data loss and identify risky behaviour from careless, compromised or malicious users.

For government and public-sector organisations with data localisation and on-premises requirements, Proofpoint said it can also support insider threat programmes while keeping sensitive data within required environments.

For partners, this creates opportunities beyond traditional email and endpoint security engagements, particularly around data protection, DPDPA requirements, insider threat management and AI security.

Proofpoint is positioning India as both a major cybersecurity market and an important centre for developing security technologies for the AI era.

Its expansion across Delhi and Hyderabad, alongside its existing Pune operations and local data centre, gives the company a larger base to support customers, partners and its global AI security development roadmap.
