STT GDC launches 45 MW AI ready Chennai facility, commits ₹4,200 crore investment
First 7.2 MW phase operational at Siruseri campus as total Chennai development potential reaches 130 MW.
ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (India) has launched its fourth data centre in Chennai, expanding its second campus in Siruseri.
The Siruseri campus is designed as a 45 MW AI-ready facility, with the first phase of 7.2 MW now operational.
STT GDC India said the launch reinforces its continued investment in next-generation digital infrastructure in the state.
STT GDC India’s CEO, Bimal Khandelwal, said as AI adoption accelerates and cloud demand scales, the need for resilient, high-density, future-ready infrastructure has never been more critical.
“Siruseri has been purpose-built to support hyperscalers and enterprises as they scale seamlessly and sustainably. With strong policy support from the Government of Tamil Nadu and growing customer momentum, we see Chennai playing a defining role in India’s AI and digital transformation. Our focus remains clear - to invest decisively, build sustainably, and deliver world-class infrastructure that will power India’s growth for the next decade and beyond,” Khandelwal added.
The company already operates 40 MW at its Chennai Ambattur campus. Earlier this month, it marked the groundbreaking of STT Chennai 4 within the same campus.
With this, the total development potential in Chennai stands at approximately 130 MW, including existing operational capacity.
Chennai’s competitive advantages, a strategic coastal location with multiple submarine cables, reliable power infrastructure, and cost-effective real estate, have positioned it as the leading data centre destination in South Asia.
In early february 2026, Techno Digital, the digital infrastructure arm of Techno Electric & Engineering Ltd, inaugurated a new 36 MW AI-ready hyperscale data centre at Chennai’s SIPCOT IT Park in Siruseri.
While Mumbai remains India’s largest DC market, Chennai’s rapid growth has put it in the top tier, rivaling traditional hubs like Bengaluru and outpacing other cities in capacity addition and demand uptake.
STT GDC’s expansion plans
The company has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu, proposing an investment of ₹4,200 crore to develop AI-ready data centre infrastructure in the state.
Beyond Chennai, STT GDC India has signed MoUs with the governments of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh to develop large-scale AI-ready data centre infrastructure.
Expansion plans are also progressing in Mumbai, Noida, Pune, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
STT GDC India currently operates 30 data centres across 10 cities.
The company has over 400 MW of critical IT load capacity across its portfolio.
The company said it continues to evaluate long-term strategic options to support future expansion, including a potential initial public offering targeted for the first half of 2027.
