Tata Power adopts Databricks to build unified data and AI platform across energy operations
Targets real-time grid intelligence and enterprise-wide analytics.
The initiative spans all business clusters, including renewable energy, smart grids, solar manufacturing, rooftop solutions, and customer-facing services, as the company looks to scale its digital capabilities in line with the ongoing energy transition.
Tata Power is building a centralised platform that integrates data engineering, analytics, and AI to replace fragmented systems and traditional data warehouses.
The platform will process large volumes of data and deliver near real-time insights across operations.
This will support use cases, including intelligent grid management, power planning and optimisation, renewable energy forecasting, and improvements in billing and collection processes.
The company is working towards delivering a single-view customer experience by consolidating data across touchpoints.
A key component of the rollout is the use of Genie, an AI agent that enables employees to interact with enterprise data using natural language. This allows users to generate insights, dashboards, and analytics without relying on specialised technical teams.
The platform also integrates edge, operational, and enterprise data, enabling a more connected view of systems and helping eliminate data silos across the organisation.
Shifts towards real-time, insight-led energy operations
As energy systems become more distributed and complex, the ability to process and act on data in near real time is becoming critical for grid stability and efficiency.
This is particularly relevant as renewable energy sources introduce variability in supply and require more dynamic balancing of demand.
The unified platform is expected to help Tata Power improve grid flexibility and optimise energy distribution by enabling faster, data-driven decisions.
It also supports advanced analytics and AI models that can improve forecasting accuracy and operational planning.
The company said the platform will play a role in reshaping how customers interact with energy, as users increasingly move from being passive consumers to active participants who manage and optimise their energy usage.
Builds foundation for enterprise-wide AI adoption
Tata Power plans to consolidate its enterprise data on the Databricks platform to support future AI-led applications and self-service analytics.
This includes enabling “talk-to-data” capabilities and broader access to data across teams.
The implementation is supported by an internal Centre of Excellence and a partner ecosystem, aimed at building and scaling data capabilities across the organisation.
Tata Power’s CEO and MD, Praveer Sinha, said the partnership strengthens the company’s digital foundation to support smarter operations and accelerate renewable integration.
The companies said the platform will support long-term digital transformation by enabling scalable, insight-led operations across Tata Power’s energy business.
