Google Cloud and Microsoft focused on unlocking AI economy in Indonesia
Google Cloud launched Indonesia BerdAIa, an ecosystem-wide program to help organizations build and deploy custom AI solutions while Microsoft opened its first cloud region in Indonesia, called Indonesia Central.
As Indonesia looks to achieve its AI ambitions in the region, both Google Cloud and Microsoft remain committed to providing the infrastructure needed for businesses to unlock their potential. As the fourth most populated country in the world, Indonesia’s digital economy is also one of the fastest growing and largest globally.
From large enterprises to micro-SMEs, businesses in Indonesia are becoming more digitally enabled as the look to cater to the massive demand in the country. Research from Public First reveals that if local organizations effectively apply AI, they could contribute an estimated US$38 billion in economic value to Indonesia by 2030.
At Google Cloud Summit Jakarta 25, Google Cloud launched Indonesia BerdAIa, an ecosystem-wide program to help organizations build and deploy custom AI solutions that deliver measurable, real-world value for Indonesia’s key economic sectors. The program will leverage Google Cloud’s fully integrated AI technology stack – including the latest Gemini 2.5 and GenAI media models, as well as its AI experts and partner ecosystem, to help organizations advance their missions.
“Indonesia BerdAIa aims to create an AI-driven multiplier effect that benefits key industries, society, and the broader economy. By providing organizations with essential training and industry-leading AI platform and data management services, we can help foster an AI-ready workforce and accelerate organizations' ability to deploy scalable GenAI and agentic AI solutions that are ‘grounded’ on trusted data sources,” commented Fanly Tanto, Country Director for Indonesia at Google Cloud.
A total of 15 industry-leading member organizations, ranging from financial institutions to retail and universities, will facilitate the program. Google Cloud’s local partner ecosystem, which consists of Accenture, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Deloitte, McKinsey & Company, CloudMile, Datalabs, Devoteam, Elitery, Metrodata, NTT Data, Searce, and more will also be supporting the deployment.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has also opened its first cloud region in Indonesia, called Indonesia Central. An AI-ready hyperscale cloud infrastructure, Indonesia Central offers in-country data residency, high levels of security, and lower latency and is part of the Microsoft’s planned US$1.7 billion investment from 2024 to 2028.
Commenting on the launch of the cloud region, Microsoft Cloud & AI Executive Vice President Scott Guthrie said Indonesia’s vision for AI and digital transformation requires trusted infrastructure as its foundation.
“With the launch of Indonesia Central cloud region, we are bringing the full power of Microsoft cloud closer to Indonesian innovators – empowering every developer, every organization, and every government institution to innovate locally and scale globally,” added Guthrie.
The Indonesia Central cloud region is now live with three availability zones which provides independent power, cooling, and networking for higher availability needs, is built with security and sustainability at its core.
“For 30 years, Microsoft made it our commitment to empower Indonesia. Today, we take the next step forward by opening the Indonesia Central cloud region, which expands Microsoft’s global network of over 70+ Azure regions worldwide, the most of any cloud provider. This is more than an infrastructure, this is a foundation for national progress,” said Dharma Simorangkir, President Director, Microsoft Indonesia.
According to IDC’s latest study, Microsoft, its partners, and cloud-using customers will generate about US$15.2 billion new economic value between 2025 to 2028. The opening of Indonesia Central cloud region is expected to account for 16.5% of it and add more than 106,000 new jobs in the same period.
