Snowflake plans to deploy local instance on AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) region

Malaysia continues to be a key growth market for Snowflake with the vendor growing its presence in the country with several new hires as well over the past few months.

To address rising demand in Malaysia, Snowflake is looking to deploy a local instance on the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) region. The AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) region, which went live a few months ago, is capable of supporting customers data sovereignty needs as organizations look to maintain data governance and meet regulatory requirements.

Expected to go live in the first half of 2026, the Malaysian instance will enable Snowflake customers to keep their data securely on shore in the country, while continuing to leverage the flexibility and scalability of Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud. Malaysia continues to be a key growth market for Snowflake with the vendor growing its presence in the country with several new hires as well.

According to Satchit Joglekar, Managing Director, Snowflake ASEAN, with data sovereignty becoming an increasing priority, and Malaysia’s National Cloud Computing Policy now in effect, customers need to have confidence that their data remains on shore.

For Joglekar, the announcement is a key milestone in offering increased compliance and security capabilities while decreasing latency, enabling customers across the public sector, enterprise, healthcare, financial services and beyond to innovate faster and more securely than before.

“It’s a testament to our commitment to Malaysia, and our partnership with AWS,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kirsten Gilbertson, Partner Organization Leader for AWS ASEAN believes that in today's AI-driven economy, data and innovation are fundamental requirements for building a robust digital environment.

“The planned launch of Snowflake on the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region will enable Malaysian organizations to confidently push the boundaries of what's possible with data while accessing world-class cloud and AI capabilities. This collaboration with Snowflake will give Malaysian organizations more choice and flexibility in how they innovate with data, while enabling them to meet stringent data residency requirements,” Gilbertson said.

The announcement, which was made at Snowflake World Tour Kuala Lumpur, was attended by customers and partners in the country. They include ADA, GXBank and Hextech Vision Sdn Bhd, all of which are already among those leveraging the Snowflake AI data cloud across the country. These customers also welcomed the announcement on the local instance with AWS.

Commenting on the announcement, Eddie Ong Choo Meng, Chief Executive Officer of Hextech said, “Snowflake’s advanced platform serves as one single source of truth at MoneyX where we unify customer and business data across every touchpoint to deliver real-time insights.

Ong hopes with the upcoming Snowflake deployment on AWS Malaysia, Hextech will benefit from guaranteed data residency, a key advantage for the industry, while achieving lower latency - enabling them to deliver personalized financial solutions to customers with greater speed and precision.

Another Snowflake partner, Srinivas Gattamneni, CEO of ADA pointed out that Snowflake powers some of ADA’s key industry solutions, from Customer 360 and Intelligent Commerce to its data and AI accelerators that power identity, personalization, and end-to-end ecommerce, helping clients drive measurable ROI.

“With the new Malaysia region, we look forward to delivering these solutions with lower latency and full data residency, a critical advantage for industries like BFSI, telco, and healthcare, while positioning Malaysia as a hub for AI-driven commerce across ASEAN,” Gattamneni said.
