Michael King has joined HYCU as Head for Asia Pacific. An industry veteran with over three decades of experience in the global tech sector, King joins HYCU as the SaaS data protection platform looks to cater to the growing need in the region.
“For me, this role isn’t just about joining a fast-growing tech company—it’s about helping businesses in APAC navigate one of the most important challenges of our time: safeguarding their data to ensure business continuity, compliance, and trust,” stated King in a blog post.
King also stated that he has built high-impact teams and market strategies across Japan and the broader region—launching new markets, scaling go-to-market efforts and partnering with CIOs and CISOs to meet business-critical goals over the years.
“I’ve always taken pride in being a trusted advisor who understands the cultural nuances and market dynamics of APAC. Now at HYCU, I get to put that experience into action—leading a team that’s not just meeting market needs, but anticipating them,” added King.
Prior to joining HYCU, King established and expanded APAC operations for Wasabi, showcasing expertise in driving start-up initiatives in the region. King has also served as President and Representative Director for SAS Institute Japan, Citrix Systems Japan, Autodesk, and Borland. He also held executive roles at Rakuten, including CIO for E-Commerce, GM of Data and AI, and CRO of Rakuten Communications, where he led teams of over 600 and championed strategic innovation.
According to King, in today’s digital first world, where data sprawls across SaaS applications, on-premises infrastructure, and multi-cloud environments, the challenges of data protection have grown exponentially. He believes the risk of ransomware, compliance pressure, and operational disruptions are not theoretical, as they’re daily realities for enterprises across Asia Pacific.
King also explained that one theme kept surfacing in conversations with customers, partners and peers in the region, whereby there is the urgent need for a partner who can simplify, secure, and unify data protection across every environment.
“HYCU is that partner. As the #1 SaaS data protection platform, trusted by over 4,600 brands globally, HYCU has reimagined how backup and recovery should work. Its mission to make data protection radically simple—and truly resilient—aligns perfectly with the needs I’ve heard from IT leaders in APAC for years,” said King.
HYCU was also recently honored by CRN with a 5-Star Award in the 2025 CRN Partner Program Guide. The fastest-growing leader in the multi-cloud and SaaS data protection as a service industry was also recognized as a visionary in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant for enterprise backup and recovery software solutions.
