Alibaba Cloud looks to enabling digital banking and EVs in Malaysia
The Chinese cloud company collaborated with Ryt Bank, the world’s first AI bank, for payment transfers as well as partnership with PRO-NET to transform the national EV platform in Malaysia.
At the Alibaba Cloud AI Day in Kuala Lumpur, Alibaba Cloud shared its role as the cloud infrastructure provider powering Ryt Bank, the world’s 1st AI Powered bank for payment transfers and formalized a new collaboration with Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET), the energy subsidiary of national carmaker PROTON.
According to Dr. Feifei Li, SVP of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group and President of International Business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group, supporting Malaysia’s goal to become an AI Nation by 2030 requires strong national partnerships and solid infrastructure that drive innovation and technological advancement.
“Through our collaborations with Ryt Bank on AI-enabled digital banking and with PRO-NET on AI-driven solutions, Alibaba Cloud is proud to act as a strategic partner for Malaysia, empowering digital and AI capabilities across key industries, helping Malaysia innovate at both national and international levels,” said Dr Li.
As Malaysia’s digital banking ecosystem continues to mature, Ryt Bank launched its core banking environment in just six months, supported by Alibaba Cloud’s local cloud infrastructure and secure architecture. This foundation is designed to assist Ryt Bank to operate in line with Bank Negara Malaysia’s regulatory requirements.
With a fully digital onboarding journey that can be completed in just two minutes, end customers can enjoy a fast, convenient, and secure way to start banking with Ryt Bank, while Alibaba Cloud helps provide data resiliency, operational continuity, and robust cyber protections to Ryt Bank.
“Alibaba Cloud has been a strategic partner in enabling Ryt Bank’s fast, secure, and AI-driven launch. This collaboration provides the cloud foundation and AI capabilities we need to drive innovation, strengthen customer trust, and support Malaysia’s broader digital ambitions. Together, we are helping to shape the future of AI-powered financial services in the country,” said Melvin Ooi, CEO of Ryt Bank.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s EV sector continues to see a strong need for a solid infrastructure that is capable of supporting the growing usage of EVs in the country. As such, Alibaba Cloud has been supporting PRO-NET from its inception, enabling the company to adopt a cloud first and data driven approach through a fully integrated end-to-end data pipeline.
This foundation has played a key role as PRO-NET drives the development of Malaysia’s new energy ecosystem and accelerates the nation’s transition towards intelligent, sustainable mobility.
Specifically, PRO-NET is advancing its AI capabilities using Alibaba Cloud’s Model Studio to develop its internal chatbot, which will later expand to customer-facing applications and vehicle infotainment systems. This collaboration strengthens PRO-NET’s capabilities in intelligent mobility, predictive analytics, and customer experience, supporting Malaysia’s broader EV transformation.
“Alibaba Cloud has been a key partner to PRO-NET, and their support in building our cloud-first and data-driven foundation has been instrumental as we advance Malaysia’s new energy mobility ecosystem. As we move into the next phase with AI, this impactful collaboration will empower us to unlock deeper insights, elevate customer experiences, and accelerate our vision of shaping a smarter, more connected future of mobility for Malaysia,” said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.
The collaboration also explores broader AI opportunities, spanning Qwen, and Platform for AI (PAI) positioning PRO-NET to harness cutting-edge AI tools for operational efficiency, enhanced customer experience, and innovation in electric mobility.
