Gemini is now available on the Google Distributed Cloud
Singapore public sector agencies including CSIT, GovTech Singapore, and HTX, will be the first in Asia, and among the first worldwide, to get access to Gemini on GDC air-gapped.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud announced the general availability of Gemini on the Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) air-gapped and the preview of Gemini on GDC connected at the AI Asia: Building Beyond Borders conference in Singapore.
In his keynote address, Kurian, who made the short trip down to the island nation, said this availability will now enable organizations to leverage the full power of Gemini models while keeping their sensitive data under their control, in their own data center.
GDC is a fully-managed on-premises and edge cloud solution that is offered in both air-gapped and connected configurations. Gemini on GDC complements the integrated technology stack that is already available on GDC, which includes Vertex AI, Database as a Service (DBaaS), Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), end-to-end security controls, and more.
Singapore public sector agencies including CSIT, GovTech Singapore, and HTX, will be the first in Asia, and among the first worldwide, to get access to Gemini on GDC air-gapped.
“The biggest large-language model is now available and generally available on Google Distributed Cloud. Google Distributed Cloud is used by many organizations around the world. Here in Singapore, we are privileged to have CSIT, HTX and GovTech as customers. And there are many other government agencies as well as regulated companies using Google Distributed Cloud,” Kurian said in his keynote address.
In Malaysia, public sector organizations and companies in regulated industries can leverage Gemini on GDC through Google Cloud's strategic collaboration with Dagang Nexchange Bhd (DNeX). Last year, DNeX and Google Cloud announced a multi-year agreement to offer Google Distributed Cloud to Malaysia's critical industries, such as healthcare, public safety, energy, and utilities, to accelerate their digital transformations with best-in-class AI and analytics capabilities, all while keeping their sensitive data under their control, in their own data centers.
Public sector organizations in Thailand also have same the features. Last year, Gulf Edge and Google Cloud announced a multi-year agreement to offer GDC to Thailand's critical industries, similar to like Malaysia. Both DNeX and Gulf Edge are Managed Google Distributed Cloud Partners (MGPs).
Gemini 2.5
At the summit, Kurian also announced the general availability of Gemini 2.5 in Singapore, not just for storing data, but also for the model processing happening in Singapore.
“So, if you've got data that you're worried about putting outside the country, you have our models now available here in Singapore,” Kurian added.
Apart from that, he also announced that Singapore’s FairPrice Group has transformed retail and is using the Google Cloud AI stack and Vertex to build a whole range of AI-powered experiences, in what is being referred to as the store of tomorrow.
“We're rolling out and we continue to streamline them quickly. We're pleased that there are so many customers working with us here in Asia Pacific. We're also integrating these tools with the most important independent software vendor applications.”
“Whether it's Atlassian or SAP or Oracle or VMware, we've integrated our tools with these applications. We at Google are investing heavily in the new wave of cloud powered by AI brought to you here in Singapore so that you can now build the next wave of applications and products, and we can help you take them globally using our cloud,” Kurian said.
