A-FLOW launches first data center to support the Philippines' cloud growth
ML1's launch marks an important moment for Biñan City and strengthens the Philippines' position as a regional data hub.
The launch of ML1, a new data center built by A-FLOW, marks a shift in how the Philippines expands its digital capacity. A-FLOW, a joint venture between AyalaLand Logistics Holdings Corp. and FLOW Digital Infrastructure, opened the facility in Laguna to support the rising need for dependable data services as more companies move to cloud platforms and use AI tools.
ML1 sits about 35km south of Metro Manila and adds new space to a growing cluster of data centers in the area. The site is the first phase of a planned three-building campus that aims for 36MW of total capacity. The current phase brings 6MW of IT load online.
At the launch event, A-FLOW President Sanjay Goel said: "The launch of ML1 demonstrates our commitment to supporting digital transformation in the Philippines, establishing it as a hub that enhances the connectivity and management of data across Southeast Asia and beyond. Data Centers like ML1 are catalysts for digital innovation across businesses, giving the Philippines a competitive advantage on the global stage."
He also pointed to the work behind the project. "The tremendous effort and teamwork involved are the true foundation of today's achievements," Mr. Goel said, noting the close coordination across design, architecture, engineering, and project management.
Laguna has become an attractive site for new facilities because it has lower exposure to flooding and other hazards. ML1 was built with flexibility in mind, allowing customers to adjust their space as needs grow. It can support colocation users, enterprises, and cloud service providers.
As a carrier-neutral data center, it offers multiple Points-of-Entry to help maintain strong network routes and reduce risk. The facility follows international design standards and includes several layers of physical and operational security to support critical workloads.
A moment of change for Biñan City
Local officials said the new facility marks a turning point for the area. Biñan City Mayor Angelo Alonte said, "Today marks a transformative moment for Biñan City. The launch of the first A-FLOW Data Center is more than the unveiling of a state-of-the-art facility, it signals a new era for digital innovation and economic growth in the Philippines."
He added, "Their confidence in our city reflects the strength of our communities, our workforce, and our vision for a future-ready Biñan."
Jerry Pelayo, Chief of Staff to the Governor, also spoke about the province's readiness. "Laguna has a highly employed, diligent workforce. Our people are capable, and with the Governor's focus on key programs, we are ready for (a) major investment," he said.
Part of a larger regional shift
Across Southeast Asia, demand for data centers continues to rise. Boston Consulting Group projects that regional demand may triple between 2023 and 2030. The Philippine market is on a similar path, with Research & Markets expecting a compound annual growth rate of 20.9 percent from 2024 to 2030. Growth in internet use, cloud adoption, and low-latency services is driving this trend.
ML1 enters the market during this period of rapid expansion, adding capacity for large digital workloads across sectors.
Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque said: "A-FLOW is a powerful partnership...Together, they are not just building, they are shaping an ecosystem that positions the Philippines to truly dominate in the global digital economy."
