Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen to be integrated into HP’s smart assistant

This collaboration marks a major milestone in the partnership between Alibaba Cloud and HP since 2019, underscoring their shared commitment to advancing edge AI and driving innovation in AI PCs.

Alibaba Cloud has expanded its collaboration with HP as it looks to increase the growth of AI PCs in China. Both vendors have been collaborating since 2019, with the latest partnership coming at a crucial time, as more businesses continue to invest in AI.

The expanded collaboration will see Alibaba’s open-source large language model, Qwen integrated into HP’s smart assistant “Xiaowei Hui”. The Qwen-powered smart assistant will be available on HP AI PCs in China, enabling enhanced capabilities, including smart document drafting, intelligent meeting note summary, and more.

“By combining Alibaba Cloud’s powerful cloud computing capabilities with HP’s hardware innovation, we will explore broad applications of emerging AI technology and bring more advanced, intelligent, secure, and user-friendly AI PC experiences to users worldwide,” said Chou.

The two companies will also explore cloud-edge synergy optimisation and opportunities to expand on-device AI collaboration to more Asia-Pacific markets in the future.

Since forming their partnership in 2019, HP has adopted Alibaba Cloud’s core products—including elastic computing, database, networking, and storage solutions—to enhance operational efficiency. Powered by Alibaba Cloud’s AI engine, HP also developed an intelligent chatbot to improve customer service. Beyond automated responses, the chatbot can answer calls referencing the background context, analyse customer issues through audio/video recordings, and provide service optimisation recommendations.

Developed by Alibaba Cloud, Qwen is a family of LLMs designed for various natural language processing tasks, including text generation, translation, and code writing. Qwen models are known for their performance and are available in different sizes, including Qwen2.5, which has various specialized versions like Coder and Math.

Recently, Qwen continued to see innovation and is now widely deployed across various industries to drive edge AI adoption. Smartphone makers like Honor and Xiaomi as well as automakers like BMW, FAW Group, NIO and Zeekr have deployed Qwen to help them in their AI journey.
