AWS unveils new Asia Pacific Hub office in Singapore
Occupying over 360,000 square feet of workspace, the new office can accommodate up to 3,000 employees.
As one of the biggest cloud service providers in the Asia Pacific region, AWS has expanded its presence in Singapore with a new corporate office. The new AWS Asia Pacific Hub is designed to optimize agile working, learning, and collaboration for the tech giant as it looks to continue to grow its influence and business in the region.
Occupying over 360,000 square feet of workspace, the new office can accommodate up to 3,000 employees. This also means the tech giant is now capable of having all its employees back to work in the office, following CEO Andy Jassy’s message to AWS employees last year, whereby they would need to in office full time, five days a week.
The new office is Amazon’s second corporate office in Singapore’s Central Business District. The first office opened its doors for employees in 2021. With over 2,500 employees in Singapore across its cloud, corporate, retail, technology, and operations functions, Amazon also continues to expand its local workforce with more than 100 job openings in its cloud business and corporate functions in Singapore.
The new office also reinforces AWS’s commitment to invest an additional SG$12 billion into its existing cloud infrastructure in Singapore from 2024 to 2028. This investment, in addition to previous investment, is estimated to contribute SG$23.7 billion to Singapore’s Gross Domestic Product by 2028. It will also support an estimated 12,300 full-time equivalent jobs in local Singapore businesses each year.
According to Jeff Johnson, Managing Director, ASEAN at AWS, the new regional office in Singapore represents the tech company’s deepening commitment to Singapore, and serves as a strategic hub for digital transformation across ASEAN.
“Designed as a collaborative space, it connects AWS leaders with industry partners, enterprises, and innovators to advance technology development in Southeast Asia. The launch of the new AWS office also marks Amazon’s 15th year in Singapore, reinforcing the island state’s position as a leading technology hub while accelerating digital initiatives throughout the region,” said Johnson.
Spanning across eight floors, the new office will house more than 100 teams, including local and regional employees supporting AWS and other corporate functions, and serve as a strategic hub for digital transformation across Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.
AWS customers and partners will be welcome to use its office for focused co-working sessions, creative brainstorms in dedicated innovation rooms, hands-on technical workshops, or informal networking in their community spaces. AWS hopes this open-door approach will create an environment where ideas flow freely and joint innovation thrives.
The Asia Pacific Hub office will house AWS’s first flagship Executive Briefing Center in Asia, a purpose-built space where AWS experts engage with enterprise customers and partners in strategic discussions about their cloud journey, providing customized presentations, technical deep-dives, and interactive demonstrations of AWS solutions that align with the organization's specific business objectives.
Apart from that, the office will feature Amazon’s first inclusion and sustainability gallery which showcases the company's key milestones and commitments in this space through interactive exhibits highlighting Amazon's progress in areas such as climate action, diverse hiring initiatives, community impact programs, and sustainability innovations.
In Q3 this year, there will also be an upcoming AWS Asia-Pacific Innovation Hub. The first-of-its-kind hub in the region is designed to inspire, educate, and empower customers and partners on their innovation journey. Meanwhile, the Amazon Candidate Experience Center provides a welcoming, private space for job seekers to prepare for and participate in interviews, offering a comfortable environment with amenities like refreshments and quiet rooms to ensure candidates can focus and perform at their best.
To support employees that are returning to work in the office, the new office will have a lot of creative places and designs, including amenities and interactive game board walls. For physical collaboration, the office has breakout areas for informal discussions and brainstorming as well as 12 large training rooms with a capacity ranging between 40 to 60 people each.
AWS employees will also have access to ergonomically designed height-adjustable desks as well as individual lockers to store their personal items. Teams and employees who require intervals of privacy and focus can access quiet rooms and phone booths spread across eight floors.
