Anthropic confirms new office in Singapore

The AI company also unveiled Dale Finlay as General Manager for ASEAN and is now on a hiring spree to build its presence in the country.

Anthropic has confirmed that it will be opening a new office in Singapore as the AI company looks to boost its presence in the Asia Pacific region. With offices already established in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul and Sydney, the Singapore office will be its fifth in the region.

As a regional office for the Southeast Asian region, the AI company has also hired Dale Finlay as General Manager for ASEAN. In his new role, Finlay will work with customers and partners across Southeast Asia.

“From working with customers across Southeast Asia, I’ve seen that ambition isn't the blocker to AI adoption—trust is. Once that trust exists, the real work is embedding AI into how the business actually operates,” said Finlay.

“Anthropic has built Claude around exactly those standards, and I look forward to working with customers here as they bring Claude into their most important work.”

Prior to joining Anthropic, Finlay held go-to-market leadership roles at technology companies across Asia-Pacific—including nearly a decade at Google Cloud in roles spanning AI, financial services, and enterprise. He was most recently OpenAI’s Head of GTM in Asia.

A growing AI market

According to Anthropic’s most recent Economic Index, Singapore ranks second out of 121 countries in Claude.ai usage relative to population. Usage is 5.81 times higher than would be expected based on the size of its population.

Interestingly, Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO recently reiterated his call for a slowdown of AI development at a recent conference in San Francisco. It will be interesting to see how the tech company continues with its innovation, given the strong demand of AI in Singapore and the rest of Southeast Asia.

Chris Cauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, with Claude usage per capita among the highest in the world in Singapore, opening an office in the country is a natural next step.

“A presence here means we can hire the people who know this market best, and work side by side with local customers and partners building with Claude,” Cauri said.

Anthropic has also stated that it will work with organizations of every size—from startups and digital natives to large enterprises and the public sector. The company also stated that demand has been especially strong in regulated sectors, such as financial services and government.

The AI company is now on a hiring spree as it looks to build its workforce in Singapore.
