Huawei Cloud’s strategy for Cloud and AI entices partners and customers
Huawei Cloud has three pillars focused on AI and cloud – computing power, algorithm and data. Charles Yang, Senior Vice President of Huawei and President of Huawei Cloud Global Marketing and Sales Service explains more.
Huawei Cloud unveiled its latest global sales partner policies for 2026 at the Huawei Cloud Global Sales Partner Policy launch in Singapore. The new partner policies are focused on fostering greater trust, profitability, cooperation and growth among partners globally to cultivate a thriving self-sustaining partner ecosystem.
In his keynote address at the launch event, Charles Yang, Senior Vice President of Huawei and President of Huawei Cloud Global Marketing and Sales Service, shared that the Chinese cloud vendor and its partners continue to achieve record growth and profits yearly. This not only signifies the success of Huawei’s technology but also its acceptance by customers globally.
Yang also shared that Huawei continues to invest 10% of its revenue on R&D every year which allow them to lead in every segment of the tech industry. The Chinese tech vendor has also enabled its products and services to have zero reliance on the US’s supply chain.
“We have the confidence to support our partners and customers no matter what happens,” Yang said.
To ensure this, Yang said that Huawei Cloud has defined clear business boundaries and is focused on supporting partners to achieve profitability. These policies will remain unchanged for the next three years, with Huawei Cloud adhering to specific collaboration guidelines.
As AI and cloud continue to be the focus for organizations in their tech journey, Yang explained that Huawei Cloud has three pillars for AI and cloud – computing power, algorithm and data.
Computing power
For computing power, he acknowledged that Huawei is not number one. However, Yang is confident that they are definitely in the top two as they are still at the top when it comes to the network and memory.
“For network, for 5G, for memory, for fiber, no one can compete with us. We are number one. And for chipset, because of China's manufacturing capability, there is still a gap compared with Huawei chipset with NVIDIA. There is a gap. But we changed our ways. We utilized systematic innovation for chipset. What does that mean? Last July in Shanghai, at our AI conference, Huawei launched our Huawei Cloud Matrix 384. We just put Cloud Matrix 384 AI chipset together and make it work like one chipset. To compare with the NVIDIA NVENC, Huawei Cloud Matrix 384, computing power is 1.7 times more than NVIDIA,” Yang explained.
He added that latency and safety of the chipsets are also a problem which Huawei has solved with its Cloud Matrix 384 chip.
“The conclusion is, in the new year, for computing power, Huawei has competence; we will become number one. We're not competing. We're not competing with computing power with the chipset. We compete with the system. It's not an army. Maybe one soldier, we cannot compete with you, but one army, we will win. We will win. This is the system philosophy,” he said.
Algorithm
Looking at the algorithm, Yang pointed out that Huawei choose to just compete with value they can bring for the industry.
“We should focus on industry applications first. So, this is the reason in China, we work with banks, ports, steel companies and such in each industry. It’s 35 industries and we have developed more than 500 AI applications. And for this, we just step by step move them to cloud. So, it's very easy to help our partner develop the market. And at the same time, we are very open and can support the open source and the larger models from the other countries,” he explained.
This basically enables customers from different countries to use various models to develop their own.
“At the end of the day, for Huawei, our target is in the coming three years whereby we will guarantee the Huawei Pangu AI models can rank among the top three in this world. And in order to achieve this target, we did two things last October. One is that we have prepared Huawei Laptop chipsets for the Huawei Pangu model. So, with enough computing power, we can improve the performance of the module. At the same time, we recruit talented juniors from this world for Huawei Pangu models. So, we have the confidence in the future that we can guarantee the Huawei Pangu models can rank at the top three in this world,” he said.
Data
On data, Yang shared that since Huawei was built in 1987, they have been dedicated to data and in 2017, the vendor started to work on how they can utilize data to create value. He added that since Huawei was not allowed in the US a few years ago, the vendor has defended against more than 450 billion cyberattacks.
“What does it mean? Every day, there are more than a billion attacks to Huawei data centers. So, more attacks can help us improve our capabilities. So, in the future, we have the competence to say Huawei can guarantee your data safety. Customers ask us what’s the unique value for oour cloud compared with the others? This is the value. So, for data, we can say, primarily speaking, globally, Huawei, we are number one. No one can compete with us for such kind of capability,” Yang said.
With this strategy and focus on AI and Cloud, Yang believes that Huawei has the capability to be a strong global cloud vendor.
“We have confidence. Huawei Cloud, maybe in the coming three years, will become the top three in this world. This is my ambition, and this is my package,” he concluded.
