Intel names Santosh Viswanthan as new APJ leader

An Intel veteran, Viswanathan will now be Vice President and Managing Director for the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region.

Intel Corporation has appointed Santhosh Viswanathan as Vice President and Managing Director for the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region. An Intel veteran, with over 22 years spent at the tech company, Viswanathan was previously Intel’s President and Managing Director for the Indian region.

In his new role, he will oversee Intel’s overall business, brand, and customer engagements across the region. With Intel heavily investing in the region, Viswanathan will focus on bringing the region under a unified leadership structure. This includes being responsible for driving growth, strengthening partnerships, and advancing Intel’s strategic priorities across multiple geographies.

Apart from leading the Indian region, Viswanathan also held leadership positions across Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States throughout his career. During his leadership at Intel India, Viswanathan played a pivotal role in positioning the country as a key growth engine for the company.

For Viswanathan, the Asia Pacific region is one of the most diverse and fast-growing regions in the world, and its strength lies in its people, partners, and technology ecosystems.

“I am excited to take on this expanded responsibility and work closely with our teams and customers to unlock new opportunities, drive growth, and create lasting impact across the region,” he said.

The announcement comes as Intel continues to build its presence in the APAC region with investments and new plants expected to be operational in the near future.

Meanwhile, Intel has also announced that it will join SpaceX and Tesla in an effort to build a new US semiconductor factory in Texas. Terafab is a planned US$20 to US25 billion, large-scale semiconductor fabrication project announced by Elon Musk last month.

The fab will see Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI combine to produce over one terawatt of AI compute capacity annually. Intel has partnered to provide manufacturing and packaging expertise for the project, which aims to power Tesla robotaxis and SpaceX satellites.

Intel Corporation will report first-quarter financial results on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
